SCHOOL CHARACTERISTICS AND COMMUNITY
Marymount School Medellin is a Catholic, multilingual, all-girls school located in the El Poblado neighborhood, Medellin. The school was founded in 1954 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM) as part of a network of Marymount schools in Europe, the United States, and Latin America. The Order transferred ownership of the school in 1984 to a legally constituted organization of parents, and this non-profit, “Marymount Corporation of Medellin” was then constituted as the Board of Trustees. The school, however, remains part of the RSHM Network of Schools. There are currently 990 students, all girls, enrolled from Nursery to Grade 11.
All courses taught at Marymount School Medellin are college preparatory, and 65% of these are taught in English. All seniors take the ICFES SABER 11 national exam and graduate with the Colombian Bachillerato Diploma. Furthermore, the school has adapted the University of Cambridge International Curriculum that meets international standards and provides students with the possibility of graduating with the IGCSE Diploma.
The school is accredited by the Colombian Ministry of Education, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), and the Council of International Schools (CIS).
